are the 50 cc api legal in canada?

Each Province in Canada has it's own set of rules for their Ministry of Transportation and how vehicles are licensed. The chap in Alberta who has the Ape 50 converted to a 350cc Honda has his licensed as a "home built". There are only one or two Ape 50's licensed in Canada currently. Ken

Anything new coming into Canada has to go through Transport Canada rules and it's a maze. Piaggio believes (I think) it's not worth the hassle and they wouldn't sell enough (I disagree). I can bring anything 15 years old or older in and get it licensed no problem under their 15 Year Rule. I see there's a 1/32 scale model of Pentaro being advertised, perhaps that's the answer and use the model to build one up from there. Ken

i solved the coupling stuff (production in nurnberg) the brake system is already tested and weighs next to nothing.
wolle is not so crazy to cut down an ape for nothing........

Go for it - can't wait to see the photos. If I could find a "real Ape" here that's what I'd do, knowing whatever I find won't be in very good shape. Ken

MPR2T+25727+ - John has put on 5000km since I sold him this Vespacar a year ago, uses it as a daily driver to work. Shorter days means driving in traffic in the dark to and from work so he's installed some halogen headlights on the front with a proper switch mounted into the dash which lights up when the front lights are on. Kinda spoils the original but safety and visibility are foremost in his mind. Ken

Some interesting finds: Scootart is selling their P501 Vespacar Pianale. - really don't like the roof vent but I guess it adds fresh air. Pub Italia has a white P501 Vespacar Furgone and I think it's the one a chap brought down to me for repairs. Freshwood Grill in Toronto has a new Ape for catering. Seems like Italy to me. Ken

Wednesday I'm in for a long drive to pick up the 1982 P501 Furgone I'm purchasing. Here's a photo of the floor, not bad other than a bit of surface rust after 27 years. Ken

12 hours on the road including loading her up in deep snow in the wilds of Northern Ontario in a snowstorm. Long day. High winds, blowing snow with a major winter storm front moving through but I was just on the bottom fringes of it and slipped in and out with the Ape and it's home in the driveway. Tomorrow is another day. - Ken

MPR2T+25725+ - In a bag with a Service Station Manual, Modification Manual, Parts Book and other paperwork was the original battery card that came with the Vespacar when it was imported to Canada in 1982. This is the first time I've seen one. There was also two pages provided by Piaggio relating to specific changes made to the vehicles exported to Canada. - Ken
